In the wide scenario of a mission focused on the mitigation of the debris threat, the selection of the approach and capture strategy, as well as the identification of the capture system features, have been envisaged as potential elements influencing the capability of realizing a safely controlled de-orbiting. The activities concerning the capture system definition and relative simulations are currently in progress at Aviospace – Italian subsidiary of ASTRIUM – in force of program named CA.DE.T. (Capture and DE-orbiting Techniques). Ls-Dyna is used for this kind simulation and it shows its capabilities to analyze the interaction between free bodies in the space during a rendezvous and other automatic operations
