In this study, we examine the effect of different meshes with respect to their generation process and time, their density and their quality on the solution convergence and accuracy. Different approaches are followed, from traditional surface mesh generation on CAD geometry to surface wrapping and from standard hybrid penta and tetra meshes to hexa dominant and polyhedral ones. The investigation was conducted on a landing gear model for which experimental metrics were available. All meshing methodologies were implemented using ANSA and results processing was performed in μETA. Conclusions are derived with respect to the importance of the mesh on the whole CFD simulation process for OpenFOAM and for a commercial CFD code.
